Lara or Vitamin Gurus!
What vitamins does everyone take everyday? I take Olay Complete Multi-vitamin for women plus a 50 mg. B-6 vitamin. This is probably a ridiculous question BUT....
If you aren't so great about eating "the right stuff" to get yer vitamins, does a multi-vitamin truly make up for the loss? I also JUST started taking that B-6 vitamin about 2 days ago and I am already starting to feel better mentally..Is that possible?

the absorbency isnt' as high as a liquid vitamin or the "real food" but you do get a daily % that is absorbable in the blood stream. sufficient enough to notice a difference and be in better health.
b6 is a wonderful vitamin. it's good for nerve cells as well. i usually take a multi, a calcium for leg cramps, cod liver oil for my immune system, acidolpholus for my intestiones, and a b complex every other day. gives me energy and has a natural diuretic in it i think b12 or b6 is the diuretic not sure which. but the multi is a great source.
if i didn't take vitamins omg i would be a zombie. lol

"if i didn't take vitamins omg i would be a zombie. lol" --> LOL! HAHAHAHA! that really made me laugh lol.
I don't take vitamins, and I don't get enough protein.
I bet it is possible though. I should try taking some too.
I'll go get some sometime soon and let you know if I felt the same way! Its good to hear you feel better mentally though!

Hey Irishgirl! There is no perfect replacement to a good diet, but most of us still lack in proper nutrient intake thereby making vitamin supplementation necessary. Even though vitamins don't totally make up for the loss of what you aren't getting in your diet, they are definitely better than if you weren't taking anything.
It is completely possible that your taking B-6. B-6 also known as Pyridoxine
is a, "B-complex vitamin that plays a role as a coenzyme in the breakdown and utilization of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. It facilitates the release of glycogen for energy from the liver and muscles. It also participates in the utilization of energy in the brain and nervous tissue and is essential for the regulation of the central nervous system", (Vitamin B complex,www.diagnoseme.com). As you can see, B-6 does play a role in the brain so a supplement of it may boost the effect. Keep in mind that most foods do contain B-6, but like you said, you may not be eating enough of the "right ones".
As far as what vitamins I take (when I take them that is :)), I use prenatal vitamins from WalMart. When I was pregnant with my last child, this is what my doctor suggested instead of me getting the prescription. He said that they were equal in quality and would save me a trip to the pharmacy. Go figure. :)

Thank you for the detailed reply..I'll try to keep up with the vitamins everyday..They are easy to forget sometimes aren't they? I also want to find Green Tea extract in a pill supplement as it's supposed to be a superior anti-oxidant. I just can't drink green tea all day.

I LURRRRVVV Green tea! I can drink that and coffee all day, but I know I need my water *sigh*.
There is one brand of Green Tea extract by Nature's Resource that is standardized Extract 150 mg. This brand meets the requirements I mentioned in a previous post (http://www.makeup411.net/showpost.php?p=4319&postcount=13) about encapsulated polyphenols (the active ingredient in green tea). I found it at Walgreens in case you are looking for it. :)

I've taken vitamins since I was a kid (mom was a nurse!). I buy Seven Seas vitamins as they have cod liver oil in it, and it's purely through habit as my mom used to make us eat a spoonful of cod liver oil a day!! I take the multivitamins (with ginseng it it), antioxidants and B-complex. I also take vitamin C regularly. My eating habits are variable and I don't like to eat veges (probably should not admit that!!), so I think I need the supplements, plus, it's part of my daily routine, and I need routines!!!
From a professional view though, a multivitamin supplement is enough as it should have all the daily requirements anyway (well, a good brand anyway). You should never take too much or too little, so let the experts from the pharmaceutical industry figure it out for you. Save all the maths (and all those extra bucks..they don't come cheap!) So, in summary, up to you and your lifestyle. If you're having a cold and feel flu-ey, a few extra doses of vitamin C probably wouldn't hurt!

I take a multi-vitamin and mineral, Ester-C, B-Stress, A, acidophilus, coral calcium, flaxseed oil, Super Greens, and lecithin/kelp regularly. I take E every other day, and vary my amounts of C according to what I've eaten or how I feel. I take EPO before and during my period, and sometimes on other days depending on how I feel or what I've eaten. I really try to take the supplements according to diet, because like Lara said, nothing replaces healthy eating...
I have various other supplements that I take accordingly, but these are the main ones. I really believe that we need to take at least a multi and extra C in this day and age (for various reasons)!
