the first 10lbs i lost came off in like a week. i was sweating hard and cycling plus eating normal and i lost 10lbs. after your body stablizes it will reach a healthy weight and stay there. just make sure your eating enough and your taking in plenty of fluids.
Summer should jump in on this one. First of all, if you are pretty overweight, a big loss like that shouldn't be too alarming. Like Debbie said, this can happen. However, if this continues to happen or you don't have much weight to lose, do get checked out by your doctor. Extreme amounts of weight loss like this, even if perpetuated by a healthier lifestyle, could be indicative of something bigger like a thyroid condition or diabetes. I'm not trying to be alarming here and I'm sure your weight loss is just a result of your new lifestyle, but I would be irresponsible if I didn't point these out. :) Please keep us posted.

I agree with Lara. It all depends on your starting weight and your regular lifestyle. If you've been running everyday and eating heathily, and there is a sudden weight loss, I would definitely go to the doctors. Sudden weight loss can be an early indication of some endocrine disorder (as Lara suggested) or something more worrying. Best to have a thorough check up.
If you have not been exercising, but have taken up running again after a long rest, then yes, you may experience a rapid weight loss in the first few weeks, but it all depends on your starting weight. If your starting BMI is between 20-24, then 10 pounds is quite a lot to lose, and I would rethink the diet again. You are burning off more energy, so need more fuel to sustain it. If the BMI is more than 30, then a huge amount of weight loss in the first few weeks is normal. Difficult to tell straight off as I probably need a more complete history.
Hope this helps at all.

What the big question should be is: During the past week did you cut out breads and starches. If the answer is yes than the majority of weight you lost is water, because you have lost most or your absorbants. That is why there is such controvery surrounding the atkins diet... when you decide to treat yourself to a little peice a cake it's not unusual to gain a pound from it because your going back into water storing mode. Hope this helps it's from my trainers mouth to mine :)

Do you know much about Diabetes Lara? I know they test a fasting blood sugar and if it's over 100; diabetes should be suspected..I wonder if this is the same test that you can do by fasting overnight and then taking your blood sugar with one of those diabetic glucose meters. My blood sugar tends to run low and if I don't eat after a certain amount of time; I get shaky. If it's what they call "Hypoglycemia," how do you try to normalize it? The answer is probably staring me right in the face but I am on brain overload at the moment..LOL!

i get under and i shake to the point i almost pass out. drink orange juice, it neurtralized the surgar. that's what the dr told me to do. once it stops eat some protein with a bannana. like peanut butter with a bannana. so your surgary doesn't spike and the protein breaks down slowly. so that wil keep your surgar at a maimsteam.
in fasting glucose for 2 hours then drinking the drink they give youl. if you are over 150 you are not dieabetic, i had the test doen but you are boarderline. you have to be like 200 fasting to be diabetic. then it has to be controled by meds. if higher insulin.
fasting i was 105 teh dr said i was in normal range. but i know mine drops lower than that to the point of passing out. i shake and feel weak. i drink orange juice and a bit of peanut butter i am fine. for hours too. you need to complex carbohydrate in your diet. to keep the surgars from dropping dangerously low. eating sweets does nothing to me. it may only make it worse. hypoglicemia runs in my family big time.
my grandmother has it bad. she passed out once and broke her wrist on teh fall. really not good. so we all have to watchl. that's whyi eat 5 small meals a day. no sweets. i don't want to end up opposite dieabetic either. that's teh dangereus kind.
i eat a lot of fish, vegies, fruit, and yogurt, bannanas, peanute butter, etc. nuts. seeds. that kind of stuff. one peice of bread. milk. and oj a lot. this had really helped my body out. the surgar fromt eh fruit really helps, though it's a bit on the fibery side. lollololololool
that's ok though. i dot his a lot 3 times a week eat a lot o fruit. then 2 dasy a week i eat a lot of greesn and proteins. so i am pretty well on my way to good eating habits. mahi mahi is my weakness. this is the best fish, it's white thick fish. it's so good you have to try it. i feel so good after i eat it. so naturally good for you. ummmm with wile rice and fried vegies that are hot and crispy. so good. i know alot of recipes for healthy foods. i have lost a lot of weight like you. but but seeing a nutritionist ti has really helped me eat better.
i am human i cheap once in a while because it's normal. i will when i lose teh weight too. i will eat some treats here and there. like birthdays i can have cake you know stuff like that. but eating right is essentual if you have low surgar. eat more fruit and complex carbohydrate so it stays level in the body. you don't want to surgar spike it then ti goes too high the pancreas has a hard time processing the insulin then. so drink oj and a bite of peanute butter. i bet you feel 100 times better. :) every morning. :)

Not Lara, but if you have hypoglycaemia (more common than you know), then all you need to do is eat regularly and always carry a snack with you. Juice is the fastest and best way to bring your sugar levels up. Hypoglycaemia is more of a tendency rather than an actual 'disease', and it needs constant monitoring. It's more common in people in high stressed jobs and long working hours, and also thin people who tend to be either more fidgety or more anxious. Basically people who uses up their energy quickly adn easily. It can be associated with other endocrine disorders too, so need to look for other tell tale signs.
With diabetes, you have hyperglycaemia with other associated symptoms. You can have either insulin dependent diabetes (juvenile onset) or non-insulin dependendent diabetes. It can be caused my many things, lifestyle being one of them. We test diabetes by testing your random glucose level first. If it's above a certain level, then we do a fasting glucose level (level after you've been starved overnight). We can also due glucose tolerance test or insulin tolerance test. You can monitor you sugars with a gluconometer, but it notoriously runs lower than the actual level, so a blood test is required. I think you guys use a different units of measurements from us, cause our diagnostic levels are in teens instead of hundreds..so won't bother going into that. If you are diabetic, you can have hypoglycaemic episodes, which are potentially more dangerous. Hence why diabetics always carry their insulin shot and a packet of sweets or juice in their bags!! If its profound hypoglycaemia, the patients will need some intravenous dextrose solution stat adn may also require some glucagon injection. Its essential for them to have a doctor or nurse to monitor their medications as it is an everchanging disease, with risks of your sugars going either too high or too low. Diabetes is for life, basically.
As you can see, two completely different scenarios, so depend on the background of your original question. Hope this helps though.

i think the opposite diabetes is more dangerous because you pass out. i have passed out in the past but i was also anorexic at the time. but still not safe. so much damage can bbe done to teh body if not treated. so i agree summer. it should be prepared and modoreated.
