i am trying to grow my hair. it seems to be taking forever to grow. i was wondering, about how long does it take to grow a few inches? say 3 o 4 inches. i don't know how quick hair grows or how fast its supposed to.
thanks :)

I dont know if its just my hair but, mine grows quite fast I think anyway. I normally get it trimmed every 6 weeks by about 3 inches and in the mean time it has always grown back longer than it was 6 weeks ago.
I've notices since I've taken certain vitamins my hair grows alot quicker

i should take my regular vitamins. i have been letting mine grow since march and its' grown about 4 inches. howerver i had 2 inches cut out because of the black i had in it. but now i am letting it grow out totally. i won't get it cut for 6 months. i just had a trim of about a half an inch. so we'll see how long it gets fast. i just want it to grow fast. lol
:)
i'm impatient. lol

I used to be the same, wanting my hair to grow and it neevr would and i'd get so impatient, I'd not get it cut for months but then I relised having very SMALL regular trims actually made it grow quicker.
Hope it gets the length you want it soon :)

i had long hair all my life and i cut it all off last year. i wish i had never done that. now i just want it to grow. i will get little trims inbetween, like a milimeter. lol just the ends. i do swim a lot and stuff.
my hair is in layers so it's going to take so long to grow all those layers out. but once they do grow it will be cool looking. i can't wait. :)

OMG Debbie, it was long and you cut it?? awww gawd you were brave, I could never even think about doing that hahaha I cried at the hairdressers a couple of years back when she cut my hair about 3 inches to much hahaha I never went back there after that

my hair was down to my waist and i cut it to an inch all around! everyone was freaked out. including the hairdresser. lol
stupid me. lol
I think it grows about 1/2 an inch a month, not sure though.
Mine has been driving me nuts lately though. I'm tempted to chop off about 4-6 inches so it's healthier. It seems like the thickness has decreased as I've gotten older!
I'm also debating color(s). Normally, I get it done in a salon but I can't really afford that now. Not with our move and needing a ton of household items! (I got rid of most of my stuff before I left Texas.)
So I've been thinking of doing it myself which could be a HUGE mistake! I don't want to use anything that is high lift!
Argh!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what to do!

i'd get the some of the dead hair cut but don't color it until you guys can afford it. i'd rather have roots. don't mess up your hair it's pretty as it is. :)
i have done that when i had long hair and it really damaged it for awhile. lol
yeah my hair seems to have grown slower since i have gotten older. when i was young my hair would grow so quick. i had it down to my bum for the longest time. then i went and cut it off. gosh if only i had known. lol
Hey everyone. I did some research on how fast hair grows and the general consensus is 6 inches per year, which breaks down to 1/2 inch per month. Some factors effect it like age, genetics and hormonal state. I remember when I was pregnant with my first child, my hair went from the middle of my back to my waist in 9 months! Unfortunately, it never grew that fast again. I did read that a good multivitamin can help the process. Not sure how legitimate that would be, but it couldn't hurt. :)

I don't know if this would help any, but different parts of your hair grow at different rates. not dramatically different but that's why your layers end up looking weird after awhile lol. Personally I find that the hair at the front of my head grow soooo fast I notice a difference after 2 weeks of getting a haircut lol

I have the same issue... I just wonder if it is growing at the same pace, but we notice the growth in bangs, 'cause when they grow even slightly longer, it's hard to see!!
I'm trying to grow my hair out too and it's taking forever! I went for a shoulder-length cut and the woman butchered my hair, so I had to go to another salon and the only way to save it was chopping it to just above my ears... awful! I will never go back to the first stylist. That's what I get for going to someone close to me rather than just going to my regular stylist.

that's what happend to me. i just wanted a cute bob or something, well she cut all my hair off. it was down to my buttt!!!!!!!!!!!! she cut it all off. i cried when i went home. what they did to my hair was unbelieveable. i was so sad. :(
it's taking forver to grow too. i have been growing it out for 6 months now and it's only grown maybe 3 inches and that's it. :(
i guess once it reaches a certain length it will grow quickly. mine has always been like that. once it reaches my shoulders it grows super quick but i will have to contend with this crap until it grows out.
in the meanitime i dye it fun colors so it's not so drabby. i also try to style it different. not that it helps much. lol
good luck to you too. :)

I heard too that it grows 1/2 inch a month. But everyone is different. I heard it's primarily genetic. And, I heard something interesting once that was that everyone has a different (genetic) maximum length (i.e. a strand will only grow so long before it falls out). That's why some have really long thick hair and some have stringy hair when it's longer. Anyway, I also recently heard that protein is really what makes hair grow, which is why people who are anorexia and/or have a poor diet have bad looking hair. I tend to naturally eat more protein than carbs and eat a well balanced diet and I've always had really thick long hair but it's probably mostly genetic but I'm sure I'm not hurting it by eating well. My hair grows between 1/2 to an inch a month (more like 1/2 inch). I've also heard that hair grows faster in hotter and humid weather and slower in the winter. That's all my hair knowledge. Have no idea how much is true... Good luck in your pursuit. :)

Nutrition definitely plays a part in hair growth as well as medications. Some medications like prednisone can cause hair to fall out. Biotin plays a part in hair growth (can be found in good multivitamins). Sulfates in shampoos can be harsh on the hair and scalp as well as constant heat and water abuse. The stylists I work with in my spa/salon who have really gorgeous super long hair shampoo every three days and usually let their hair air dry most of the way before styling.

I was reading Honeybee3917's post about Milla Murray shampoo and conditioner, and I was wondering has anyone else tried it? I got my hair cut yesterday and it got completely butchered and way too short. I'm thinking of buying it based off of Honeybee3917's recommendation anyway but I would love to hear other opinions on it too.
it should take 6 to 7 months to grow 3-4 inches if your hair normally grows 1/2 inch a month. good luck!

id love to know what vitamins you are taking that are making your hair grow like that! mine takes absolutely forever to get anywhere!
yeah, my sister takes forever for hers to grow, but mine grows fast. it could be genetics. who knows?

I've been taking biotin for the past couple of months and I do have to say that my hair has grown about 2 1/2 inches. It also helped a lot in my metabolism. Also Evening Primrose oil helps aid in hair growth as much as everything else. I've never heard of a shampoo or condition that helps in hair growth. Only vitamins and good eating habits help in growth. :)

i think a multivitamin, esp. prenatal vitamins are helpful. i started taking prenatal vitamins (i'm not pregnant) and noticed a difference in shine in a matter of days, but not length unfortunately.

My hairdresser nearly scalped me recently (she cut off 6 inches!) and it sent me scrambling to find something that will help my hair grow back. Prenatal vitamins definitely help. I've also been taking Vitamin E. It could be all in my head but I swear my hair is shinier. I've heard a lot about the supplement Biosil (http://www.iherb.com/biosil.html) and I'm thinking about trying that out.
