You know, like Color Me Beautiful, or something?
I'm curious if you've had a good or helpful experience, or is it worth the money/ never had it done myself...
Thanks

I didn't have my colours done per se, but it was part of the finishing course that my mom sent me too...you know, where they teach you how to walk, talk, dress. Other than trying to play hooky with my girlfriends, it really didn't open up my eyes to anything new...made me wonder who on earth had the time to create different forks or spoons for each meal and course, though. Of course, it can be a whole different experience if you're paying for it, and not be forced to attend the classes!!!
Basically, if you're a young girl and completely lost in the world of makeup and fashion, then yes, it may be helpful in nudging you in the right direction. Or, perhaps, if you know you just don't have the right knack and there were just one disaster after the other (most of us know the eighties!!!). As you grow older, you develop your own style, and know more of what suits you...by how you feel about yourself when you have a certain dress or colour of lipstick on, or by gauging people's reation to you. The right 'colours' or 'tones' are great guides, but style has nothing to do with what's 'right'...some of them are made of a combination of 'wrongs' that somehow seems perfect!! In short, choose what's right for you, and not what other people tell you that is right.
If you just want to know, then by all means, knowledge is knowledge. It might totally open up a whole different spectrum that you wouldn't even dare to have tried before.
Hope this helps some.

Wow, is finishing school like what they used to call Charm school? You are from the South, I bet...and definitely not from NYC, like me  :D
Honey, I'm an '80's girl, the world of fuchia lipstick, and black and cold eyeshadow. and mousse! and hair spray! Tons.
But that was then, (thank goodness) and this is now. I just wanna find the right colors that flatter me and don't make me look like a dead person! LOL

That's when I learned I had no shoulders. The lady was wondering why her color swatches kept falling onto my lap. She looked down at me and said "Oh, you have no shoulders. That's why they fall down". This traumatic experience has stayed with me. :)
LOL
But there are many websites where you could do this for free. Even the covergirl.com website can tell you if you are warm or cool in colors.

an aunt show me all the tricks and trades. she told me how to sit, how to eat, how to put on my make up. everything. i learned it all from her.
if not for her i'd be a tom boy still.
i mean i am a bit but i also know how to be a lady. makeup applications are expressions of ourpersonalities.
some girls have good knowledge and some don't. but let me tell ya, how many hours i'd sit in my room practicing. it really helps to get magazines and girlfriends together to try different stuff out.
it takes time too

No, I'm not Southern...I'm a mongrel mix, with a European and South East Asia mix. It's just something that all the girls in our family do when they're 14....it kinda just got stuck!!
I was probably the only girl in the eighties who didn't really experiment much. Not much scope when you're in uniforms 80% of the time! No make up was allowed, and your are even limited about the colour and size of the ribbons you wear! Holidays and the odd weekends off are spent with the family, so not much lee way there either! The few times I got crazy was when I was invited for sleep overs and birthday parties of my friends or my cousins, where my friends would go nuts making me over!! They have much more lenient parents. My hair was mixed with so much gel and hairspray, I swear it took a whole week for it to recover!! My nod to the eighties was probably those crazy sunglasses that my older cousin used to collect. I grew up in the late eighties, so it was all power suits and bold red lipstick...and there I was, with my sensible sneakers and makeup free face!! Talk about standing out in the middle of the crowd!
