View Full Version : POLL: Are Shoes With Pointy Toes Really Comfortable?

On the makeover shows (I admit I'm a fan), the hosts and "experts" are always trying to get women to wear shoes with points on the toes, mainly to elongate the figure.
While we know they look better, do you personally find that they are as comfortable as the shows promote them to be? The theory is that the toes fit into the toe box as in any shoes and the point is appended to it and has no effect on the wearer.
Just curious to see what everyone thinks. :)

I have several pair. The only thing I have found is that in a couple of the pair that I have I have to put cotton in the toes. I have very small feet, and the toes will move forward thru the day and then wearing them is a bit of a trick. So I fix the problem with a bit of cotton and that seems to help me.

I absolutely hate pointy shoes. I know theyre the style right now. But I think theyre ugly and look like witch shoes. No offense to anyone who wears them. Just my opinion. I see girls wear them with jeans all the time at the mall and stuff and it just looks dumb. Whenever I see a trend I always ask my husband if he thinks its attractive. Just cause I know I always dressed to impress guys and I know a lot of other girls do too. And my husband says he thinks they're really ugly and he doesn't know a guy who would think they look good. Maybe I'm just bitter cause I have fat feet who knows.

Hey, Spoiled Girl. Try lambs wool in the toes. It is much softer & easier on the toes. You can find it at any store that sells dance supplies & dance shoes. That is what my daughter uses in her ballet shoes.

I agree with SparkZ. Never liked pointy shoes..witch looking, or look like you're wearing elf shoes. Very uncomfortable for your toes as well. If I have smaller feet, maybe..but I'm a size 6.5 (UK) 8.5 (US), so it looks like little canoes on my feet!! I prefer round toes. More comfortable, looks smarter and I have the luxury to dress it up or down depending on the outfit I'm wearing. Plus, as it's more comfortable, I can wear 4 inch heels all night with no discofort..so my legs will look longer anyway.

I'm with the rest, I find them totally uncomfortable! I have tried but it doesn't matter what I do and for me if my feet hurt then I am cranky all over. I much prefer either open toe or round toe. Besides when you wear a size 10 shoe like me those pointy toe shoes look like boats!

oh Dayna we should trade shoes I have size 10 feet too. I love love love the pointy shoes. I have three boots. Yes they hurt but everyone tells me how great I look and then I feel fab U lous!! I am soo gonna try the lambs wool. Thanks for the tip. Actually my feet only hurt in one of the boots the other two are ok. Its the spikey heel that kills ha! I think the point is sexy and the round toe is too much like a kiddie shoe.

They CAN be. I'm usually a size 8 or 9 and I bought a pair of pumps in a size 8 because they were more snug and didn't slip off the back of my heels when I took a step so I thought they were a better fit. BAD CHOICE! The back of the heels rubbed up against the back my mine and I had bloody heels! Not very pleasant. I then got these pads for the back of the shoe and it made the shoes really tight at the front. So I shoulda stuch with the 9 so I could buy those pads and my feet would be comfy. I recently bought a pair of pointy boots in a size 10 because that was the only size they had and they were on sale so I HAD to buy em. They're the comfiest pair of pointy toed shoes I have. They're a bit big but not too big that my feet are swimming in them. It's nice to have a bit more room in the shoe with pointy shoes. So basically, my advice is that you get a size bigger than you normally would and have a bit of space, you can always get pads and stuff to make em a bit more snug if you'd like.

i donno. i have size 10 feet, and i always felt i couldn't wear pointy-toed shoes because they elongate my feet! they look super sexy though IMO.

I totally can't wear them because I have such wide feet, and anything super-pointy just ends up pinching me and exacerbating my ankle problem because they're too narrow for me. As for the style, I think it can be cute in moderation with the right outfit on the right person - not superlong and pointy though.
They are definitely not comfortable if you've ever broken your big toe like I have.....very painful. (I dropped a big jar right on the joint where the big toe meets the foot.)

I know I have size 10 feet right? Everyone who looks at them knows i have big feet so whatever pointy shoes are sooo sexy and if anyone asks I say yup I have sexy size 10 feet and you know the saying women with big feet.. ( there is no saying I just say that because they are idiotic for pointing out I have big feet , like i didn't know that.)

Hum... I'm a size 9 and I have a pair of size 10 boots and I don't think they look big at all! Noone's ever told me I had big feet! LOL! I used to be a bit concious (sp?) about my feet too. and my height! I'm oriental and most (not all!) oriental people are tiny tiny tiny in every way. I'm the total opposite! I'm a giant to a lot of my friends! So I always wanted smaller feet and to be shorter. haha! But now I'm completely comfortable with my height. I actually want to be taller. But then that means my boyfriend will also need to grow a few inches too to balance for when I wear my 6 inch heels! LOL!

I think because I am short I love really long jeans or pants and pointy-toe shoes to make my legs appear longer. but I get a lot of the modified pointy so they don't look witchlike. i have wide feet and ankles so my biggest challenge is with boots. I can't fit into most of them. but luckily there is nordstrom that carries every size, width.

I absolutly love pointed toe shoes....im not much of a fan of round toed shoes... i find the point sexier... and they dont seem to bother my feet much either.. i also add cotton or tissue in the point so my feet dont slide down

I am a pointy gal... I feel "stumpy" if I wear square/rounded shoes. To me they are extremely comfortable **IF** they are well made. I can not buy cheap ones because they leave no room for your toes.

I was watching blind date last night and the guy told the girl he hated her shoes cause they were pointy. I mean the guy was pretty much a dork and the chick was a hot exotic foreign type but none the less he told her he would have to not look at her shoes for the rest of the date. They didn't actually show her shoes though.

Sparkz hit the nail on the head. Dork didn't like pointy shoes. Sexy exotic chick had pointy shoes. Hmm which would I wear?

Im exactly the same.
I love my pointy shoes and boots most of my shoes are pointy and I do find them comfortable probably as i'm so use to wearing them now, I only ever wear shoes with heals mostly because im so short and I also have quite a small foot and round toe shoes just make my feet look awful.

I'm with MicheleF and Sarah! Just like other types of shoes, some are comfortable, some aren't. My most comfortable pairs are BGBGirls and Nine West.
Also, I was a tough convert...a couple of years ago, I thought pointy toed shoes were wierd looking and swore to never wear them. Then I got a pair of BCBG ones on a dept. store 80% off rack. I've been a fan ever since. Now I feel strange in rounded toe heels.
My advice would be, try a variety on. In my experience, the most comfortable ones have the point starting AFTER your toes, if that makes any sense.

I agree, the point should start after your toes, not squish them into the end of the shoe. I've got lots of "witch" shoes and I love them.

I like to get pointy shoes for an evening out a size bigger than my normal shoe size, and then stuff the pointy toe with tissues, and also wear a gel pad for your feet. This makes them so much more comfy!! :)

I can't really wear them. My feet start to hurt after a while. I like the way they look. But they are not for me.

I like round or square toes. Pointy toes kill my feet.
