I am making the decsion to go on birth control but I want the mildest form possible. I have no need for the pill other than the prevention of getting preagnant, and from what I heard some of the pills are so strong you can go crazy with the hormone influx (and I DO NOT want to gain weight).

Thanks in advance

i have been on 8 birth controls. so i know all about them.
every women reacts differently when put on birth control. but it takes 3 months for the full effects of the pill to work without side effects.
now there are several to choose from. there are a lot of new generations of low dose hormones.
i used the novuaring for a year. i loved it. never gained weight and i didn't have to remember to take it every day. it's an insert. it lays against the cerivix. you only change it once a month. you do it yourself. i never felt it even in there. by far i liked this one the best because it has the least amount of side affects.
then there is yasmin. they say there is a built in diuretic. it's not, it only dries out mucous membranes. i didn't like yasmin. it does make you again weight unlike the ring.
then there is orth evera it's a patch. this was a waste of time. it fell off and i had to put it on where everyone could see it.
then there is ortoevera low dose. it's a daily pill. i felt they made me sick feeling for weeks so i stopped.
you just have to find the right one for you. but i recommend the ring. it has vertually no side effects.
hope this helps. anymore questions just feel free to ask

I'm not personally on any birth control, but I would THINK that the ring is the best method. I heard about it on the news. It deposits the hormones LOCALLY instead of sending them throughout your whole body so there are less side affects. It jsut recently came to canada and I would personally ask about the ring if I chose to go on BC.

Debbie, did you go on BC right after your surgery?

they did 2 weeks after surgery, they never gave my other ovary a chance to work. they said my endometrisis was so bad. i didn't want to go on it but i did. for the first 6 months i used the ring. i had no weight gain nothing. i loved it. but i kept breakthrough bleeding so i had to get switched. then all the other ones they put me on made me sicker and sicker. i couldn't do it anymore. the fluid retention was unbearable. so i stopped the yasmin and i blew up. i missed periods. it was bad. i am lacatating milk. i have not had a period in 3 months until today. my new dr had to bring on the period iwth hormone therapy. that yasmin is dangerous stuff.
that dr i went to was a jerk too. he saw my weight climbing and climging but never helped me. i never went back.
my new dr is way better and way more knowledgeable than my other dr. so we are trying ot give my ovary a boost to start working again. poor ovary. lol
but women should always ask quesetions about the bc she uses because there are so many side effects.
i think the ring is the best.

I dunno what to say about the doctors I've been to. My new doctor I only went to her because I was concerned with my big stomach. My other doctor saw me and said "WOW! You're pregnant!!!!" And I said no and he was liek wow... that's a pretty big stomach. That was waaaaaaay before I found out about the basketball sized ovarian cyst I had. I might want to go on BC but my boyfriend is afraid of it. I was on alesse for less than a month but it made me so sick. I threw up all the time and I couldn't open up my eyes I was dizzy all the time. My bf says he's scared I'll get sick or if we're cursed with bad luck and somehow are apart of that 1% chance that we'll get pregnant and the BC will have an effect on the baby. lol. I don't know. I want to be safe though, just scared of side affects.

if i were you right now with ovarian cysts i would be on something like the ring. its' very easy to use and it has virtually no side effects.
i took it for 16 months. not a pound.
the oral ones cause more side affects i think.
also the ring is lower dose so you don't get this rush in your system.
i had ovarian cysts and one ovary got so bad it has to be taken out. i'm not saying you will have the same situation but do seek treatment for it. if you get constants cysts i would try the ring see how it works. i think you will like it. i did. right now i am off everything. i may go back on the ring once my body adjusts back to normal. lol
i loved the ring though. you don't even know it's there.
but in all seriousness i'd try it out.
you'll feel 100 times better :)

I only have one ovary left too! LOL My cyst was so big and the said that the ovary is no good anymore. I had a few cysts on my other ovary too, they got rid of the cysts and I got to keep one of my ovaries. I'm just scared that I will get more cysts on my ovary. I want to try the ring but my bf says he's scared of all the side affects so I don't know.

if that other ovary is giving you problems tell him to give a try for 3 months. if you get any side effects you willl notify him. it's your body. but i know how bad those cysts can hurt. i am going back on it because i felt a cyst on my left ovary so i won't take any chances. one you reach menopause it goes away. but i have a long ways, i am sure you do too.
but i would tell him you want to try, any side effects it goes in the trash. if the side effects are tolerable then stay on it.
it's so low that you barely feel it but it will keep your body from freaking out every month. they say hormone therapy treats cysts, endometriosis, and some other problems. '
don't be scared of it. it's a really good choice. i am very fussy when it comes to pills, that's why i liked the ring, i got a little breast tenderness, because i was due for a period. but other than that i didn't get any others. i did for the other pills he put me on. i'd be sick, or puking or water retention. i begged him to put me back on teh ring and he said no to keep taking the yasmin. i stopped it made me so sick. and women never get sick over it, it's like 1% do. well i was in the at 1%. lol
do what you think it best for you. sometimes dr's can hurt you by protecting you too much. i'd talk with him and see what he says.
good luck
