We have been given a dress code recently where I work. The dress code that they have adopted is one that is inforced at a large company which deals with the public. The company I work for is smaller and I never see the public. I should also add that I work in a garage/manufacturing setting. They have adopted the rule that there can be no mini skirts (what above the knee?, shorter than finger tips?), no capris, & you must wear hose at all times even with sandals. I am a bit of a rebel, so I'm trying to find hose with no feet (ones that stop mid arch) and I'm thinking of switching to garters and stockings when I would have worn regular hose. Also, I'm looking for like lace and wild print panty hose. I have looked at the stores around town and I'm not having lots of luck. Do you have any suggestions? Oh, a side note is I usually wear dresses and suits to work anyway. It is just the fact that they are trying to monitor the stupid things that really gets my goat.

I work in California which is ultra casual but about 10 years ago was the last time I had a dress code. The sad thing is that they would actually send you home to change if you broke the rules. It was usually some catty girl you would have nothing better to do but complain to hr. What a waste of time and effort. I agree try to bend the rules as much as possible.

i agree there is some postion of dress codes depending on status, but to enstill this "code" is a bit much and a bit drastic. i mean are peopel going to go out and buy new clothes to please the boss?
you know it always takes one bad apple to ruin it. she'll come in looking like she came off the streets. right there that sets the boundaries.
my gosh we are the 21 century, maybe we should all wear clothes like star trek. lol
do you know at apple you don't have to wear suites and ties and all that. they wear jeans and an nice polo shirt. that's it! i have seen their engineers have blue hair or pink. but these people are so cool. so is steve jobs. ;)
my husband works for apple. he had to wear slacks and an apple shirt. the supply it. and let me say these are nice clothes. sounds to me that someone started this "change." i'd lean it to the edge too.
here you go. walk in with a granny house coat, and roll your stockings down to your calves and put on those rockin' shoes and you'll be set. lol lol
just kidding. i do think there is a degree of professionalism but to some degree it should be comfortable not codes. what is it high school? geesh. i had a job taht told me i was underdressed. well i left that job pretty quick. lol
i don't follow rules either.
good luck, stick to your guns.

Thanks for the thoughts. It is pretty stupid. The worst thing about my workplace is that there are favorites. If you are a favorite you can do no wrong. If you are not a favorite then you better watch your every move because they are just waiting for you to make a mistake so they can rip you to shreds. It is getting mighty old. The bad part is that I cannot half ass things, not when it comes to my work. I wish I could, but it isn't my nature. :(

that's teh one thing i hate in offices, favorites.
there was this girl who literally lied her way throught this job. she was in charge of the catalogs and i was in charge for the mock ups. well she didin't know how to even turn a mac on or off. she made so many mistakes i costantly had to fix them. she would ask me all the time "how do you do this" i'd show her and i'd lose time in my work.
anyway, she got through with a lot of my help. the boss wanted her to go back to school to learn this stuff.
she said she had a bs in business. i had a degree in commercial arts. 4 years worth! she lied and i cought her. she then set me up to get me fired because i found out. i knew she was lying. but i left that job. i was sick of doing 10 peoples jobs. she thought she was my boss. in actuality i was production manager and she was below me. you know how some people ruin for everyone. well she was one of them. all office facilites changed because of her. uggg. i was literally asked to bring my degree in. lol
that's pretty bad.
good luck, don't let them push you around. :)

Thanks. I'm just so sick of the drama. I dread going in on Monday. I just feel like crying all the time because I work hard and I know that it will never pay off for me as long as I remain there. I am a person that needs to be working towards something. It motivates me and I know that there is never going to be anything for me to aspire to at this company. It is too bad because I'm a hard worker who is good at their job. I know that everyone is expendable, but in today's world I think finding comapny dedication and loyalty is rare. It is just a big kick in the teeth after my 6 years of hard work.

it's like you never get credit for doing a good job, or going over what is expected of you. like you said people are replaceable. they put higher standards of what people are capable of. these companies expect you to do 3 people's jobs so they can save money. that's what gets me. in my old job we needed 3 people. but we had me and the moron. lol
i was doing 3 jobs. i said screw it and quit. i mean the job barely paid me. it was a salary job. so if i had to work late i had to work late. i hated it.
the said part was the girl that used to do the catalogs had a degree too and she was replaced by the idiotl. i coudln't belive it. all because she wanted a raise after 3 years of working there.
i was making more than her, and then the girl that knew nothing made more than me. i was like no way. so i told them to bite me. lol
if you can't pay me what i am worth then see you later alligator. lol
i just wish that bosses could give their workers common curteosy. the world as changed so much. itj's a shame.
hang in there. things will become different. you'll see.

That's my girl!!!! Spoiled Girl, we are so much alike! I'm going to look and see where I can find such items for you! I can't believe that they have the audacity to tell you that you must wear hose at all times! I hope that goes for men as well!!!!! LOL
Spoiled Girl--I found a link that would be perfect! I'm going to PM it to you since the models are scantily clad. LOL. :)
