I have very dry skin all year round and I have recently started using Clinique SuperDefense for very dry skin. It is probably the best moisturizer I've ever used and has an SPF which is an added bonus. In the winter when I find I get dry patches or red areas I also use Clinique Extremely Soothing Cream for Upset Skin. It contains a very low percentage of hydrocortisone which helps to calm the skin and eliminate the redness. I used this on top of moisturizer.
For spots I recently started using the Zaparella line from Benefit, Ka Pow works really good overnight.

i use their three step system and all about eyes moisturizer and i love it. its' been a year now and i still have all my stuff. i haven't had to replace it yet. they give you such a large portion.
i def recommend it.
my skin never looked so much better.
also you may want to use a gentler exfoliate and only do it like 2 days a week.

If you usually have normal skin, and it suddenly got really dry, then it may be an allergy reaction. Try to identify anything that you did differently and avoid it the next time. Also, antihistamine and a cool cloth on your face may help in the meantime. It's very unusual, but it can be due to acute skin poisoning caused by skin contact with something you don't agree with.
If you've been suntanning, that may be an explanation, but you usually find the effect a few hours later.
If you have normal skin, and have weird dry patches suddenly at certain times of the year, you may have either eczema or psoriasis. Check with your family members if there have any hayfever, asthma, or other autoimmune problems, as it's more likely to be familial. In that case, try products form brand names like Aveeno, Oilatum or Eucerin, which are catered for eczema. For psoriasis, you can use the same creams, but you may need to visit you doctor, as you may need a prescription, depending on how bad it is.
If you notmally have dry skin, that you may just need to swith to a gentler skin routine. Go for creamier products. Skip the toner, adn less exfoliation, as this can dry your skin further. If you have to exfoliate, go for gentler softer options instead of grains, or chemiacal exfoliants like AHA, and only do it once a week.
Sorry it's a bit late, but hope this helps you a little.
