Has anyone ever had their lashes tinted at the salon? I am thinking about trying it, since my lashes are so light it takes too much mascara to cover them. Also think it might help with the washed out look I have when I don't have makeup on.
I can't seem to find a good mascara that isn't clumpy or thick or doesn't smudge after a few hours wear (especially in the summer) so thought this might be an option. The best results I have had (as far as not running) are with Elizabeth Arden's mascara but still am considering the tinting. The downside is I hear it only lasts a month to 6 weeks. Has anyone successfully been able to do a lash tint at home? If thier was an easy and less expensive way to keep up with it that would be great but I am assuming thier isn't.

I used to get this done in the Summer months, for the same reasons that you have mentioned. I have lashes that are so pale they are invisible without mascara, and thought that tinting would make make mascara unneccessary for me. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I found that eyelash tinting only darkened the lashes, but did not lengthen or volumise. I still had to wear mascara to have some kind of length or volume effect that would make my lashes stand out and to balance the rest of my eye makeup.
Due to the growth and regeneration of your eyelashes, you will not be able to make tinting last longer than around six weeks. In the UK, there are home dye kits that you can get, but for the price, I would rather go to a salon to have a professional put dangerous chemicals around my eyes!
If you are only looking for the darkening of your natural lashes, then I would say to go ahead, as you realistically have nothing to lose except the cost of the treatment, but I would advise you that you should not throw the mascaras away just yet!

I wouldn't do it- alot of states have outlawed the dyes they use to do it, it can cause some serious eye problems! I would ask whoever it is you pick to do it they name of they dye and then research it on the internet :o

How do they go about tinting them?

They basically just paint dye on them-

They do it with your eyes closed - like putting on mascara, but the dye goes on to the lower lashes through the upper lashes. Then you wait for 10 minutes or so with your eyes closed (very relaxing), then they come back and cleanse away the excess dye. I have never had any problems with this, it is very standard in the UK.
i've had it done and i've had no problems! its really worth it. it gradually comes off, so you have to do it every month or so if you want to maintain it.
