View Full Version : My jean problem

Yep. The title says it all.
In January I lost 15 pounds. Right now I'm 5'6, and weigh 104 pounds ish. In general, people think "oh em gee you are so skinny I'm so jealous!" But it sucks.

The past month I've got jean hunting twice, tried on overall 100 pairs, and cried both times. NOTHING FITS! I found two pairs out of all that fit that I decided I didn't like enough.
I've got a 24 inch waist in general, or a 1 or 0, but I have to have long seam/32 length. I can wear kid jeans, but they are usually too short because long ones are hard to find. Right now I'm not looking for baggy jeans because I have quite a few.
So what do you people think? My citys got 80,000 people in it. We've got bootlegger, and a few stores like that. Mariposa, ect. N o Urban planet, or anything like that. So, should I get some 25's, and get them hemmed all over? Or should I wait till next month when I'm in Calgary and buy a ton of pants? I've never have worn jeans that have been altered - so I don't know how great it will be. But yea, lemme know what you think! :)

what about trying on mens jeans??? Don't they need the longer lengths. Jeash I am jealous of you. I am at the opposite end I need size 14 and they are never ever in stock.

When you say "hemmed all over" - do you actually mean taken in at the waist and sides, etc? Or do you just mean hemmed (shortened)? If you actually mean taking in the waist or sides or general alteration, I think it could be a problem - denim is not as easy to nip and tuck as a dress pant, because it's such a tough fabric. I'd be inclined to wait until you go to Calgary, if you think they'll have more variety there.

If you just mean shortening the jeans, then go for it. The tailor can usually put a seam on it so that it looks like the original seam (top-stitched with the yellow thread).

One more thought - I've been out of N.America for a while now, but didn't the Levis stores used to make custom-fit jeans? Like you could go in and have your measurements taken, and they'd make the jeans to order? Just a thought.

If you have the money to spend, you can get a custom-made pair of jeans! There's a website where you can choose material, the type of hem, stitching on the pockets, etc...you send in a ton of different measurements and they will make you a custom pair of jeans! I'll go check which site it is and get right back to you...

Lucky brand fit really well, if you have a Lucky store near you. (Thanks for the jean addiction KIKI! :p ) My favorite are the lil Maggies.
Joe's Jeans also fit petites well. Maybe even try ordering online if there aren't alot of stores near you and returning them if they don't fit?

Yes! Lucky brand jeans are awesome! The Lil Maggies are my fav too! Or the regular Maggies and the Dream jean are also great and flatter petite sizes very nicely too!

I have a feeling you would wear a 24. You might also try the 23's and 25's also. No worries about the length, they make them in all lengths and alterations are FREE.

If there is a Buckle store near you, they also sell Lucky Brand Jeans!

PS...Stacy! You are most welcome! ;)

i had no idea you could get your own custom jeans made. wow. :)

I'll look out for that. I'm in Canada, I've never even heard of Lucky. But I shall try.

I meant taken in everywhere, and I definately see how that could be a problem, but might as well ask!

In general, I'd prefer jeans, but I can take other pants. I like stretchy ones. I just yea..can't find any stretchy ones/fitting ones.

Well, I never really thought of mens but I don't think men wear the jeans I would want. My legs are really skinny, so they just would bag off most likely. I'll try.

Thanks everyone :)

Just wondering if the weight loss was something you were trying for? I'm 5'3 and about 110 and I know how small I am and usually wear a 0 or 1. I can't imagine adding 3 inches to that.

it wasn't. I was on and off antidepressants, so it really affected my sleeping, and eating habits. I just dropped it off fast. It sucks. I wish I could be slightly shorter, so I could just wear kids jeans from bootlegger or something.

I used to have a friend with the same problem. She needed a 32 inseam but only wore a 2. She bought her jeans at Abercrombie and Fitch. You could try there or the gap used to make long jeans. I am very short so I have to opposite problem

You're from Canada???? You should have no problem buying jeans!!! Do you have a Jean Machine store near by? they have a lot of jeans in all sorts of sizes and lengths! most of their jeans go by sizes 27,28,29,30, etc. I think most of their jeans have a 32" inseam, I bought a pair of jeans from them with a 34". They should be able to help you though! they even have SUPER small jeans in brazilian sizes. I think the biggest size is 41 but I think it fits like a size 5!!! Goodluck!

I'll be in Calgary for 2 weeks so I'll buy some there.
I won't wear child sweat shop though - so it kinda cuts out the gap.
Though I'll check other places, thanks.

i demand a store be made here in orlando. it would do so well. i see girls in jeans that shouldn't be in them. if they did waist sizes liek they do mens it would be so much easier. :)

Have you tried Dickies (http://www.dickiesgirl.com/categories.aspx?caid=1&scid=1) ???

They have different cuts and rises. Very comfortable too! :)

Abercrombie would also be another good choice.

Have you tried Warehouse One? They always have the waist and inseam and you can "mix and match" so you can do a 26 waist with a 32 inseam or something like that. They have a ton of possibilities.

I like the website www.eluxury.com for jeans. It's great because it has a lot of high end jeans that fit well (my favorite is 7 for all mankind) and gives you a full rundown of the sizing including inseam and well as a guide for sizing.

The past month - I've got 6 pairs of pants. 5 were from this teeny bopping store called Garage. I've spent about $250 there! phew! But the jeans are 40 each usually, and I got some really nice ones that fit. Woohoo.

I got a pair at a place called Stitches too - apparently I fit 00.

Yay!

Thanks for the help everyone.

I used to have to wear the same size as you and I was 5'5. If youre ready to pay the price, try Tommy Hilfiger or Parasuco. Their jeans are really cute and they make them for skinny and tall persons (at the same time) They're quality jeans but more expansive. Hope I helped! (sorry for my bad english.. not my first language)

Ohh girl, yeah I have to say I am jealous. I have a sis that is 6'2"and is a size 1.

She does have quite a hard time buying jeans that fit ans often cannot purchase the brands that she wants.

She can order Levi's and other brands from catalogs like JC Penny, but rarely does she get to try them on before she orders. I suppose you can try on the size in the stores and then order the length you need.

I don't know if a larger city will ahve what you are looking for :(

Sounds like you are in a dilemma, a good fitting pair of jeans is as essential as a good attitude....well not quite but close.

GL hun, or you can break out that sewing machine and try some Vogue patterns...... I know they are hard patterns but dang they are worth it!

It sucks, we don't have a levi or jc penny or anything like that here. We've got 80000 people in my town, so still quite a bit but nothing big enough for that.

I make skirts, but can barely make pj pants. Maybe I should try them. Well, I dunno. The xxs on the pjs didn't even fit my waist size! I'll haev to lo ok into that.

I actually found one line (bongo, 00) that USUALLY fits. We have one store here that carries them, and tehy are pretty cheap so I'm happy. But I never go look cause they are so hard to find!

I've been a 2 also--and I need 33-34 inseam. I've found lots of jeans at Bootlegger that fit nicely and are long enough as well ;)

debbie I was looking at those!! they are really nice. i'm thinking of actualy ordering a pair.

trust me, its nothing to be jealous over. its such a pain. and even like shirts, half the time when I got buy the xs is already bought. Damn.

I can fit bootlegger kids jeans. The odd 24 not in kids, too. I just hate paying so much for jeans. And the kids jeans I need long length so its harder to get them there as well.

bleh. I think thats too hard for me right now. maybe after I take my sewing class. I decided to take one just incase I wanted to be a fashion design.
